Hermann Glöckner, German artist, sculptor, and designer, is considered one of the most prominent artists among the avant-garde German Classic Modernists. Glöckner initially created his works from objects that he had at hand: scraps of wood, twine, cardboard, matchboxes... He combined these things in a unique way to create something completely new. Despite the unfavorable political circumstances under the National Socialist dictatorship and its successor GDR regime in East Germany, he worked continuously in isolation in Dresden for decades as a "noncomformist.
Josef Scharl is a German and American painter, illustrator, and graphic designer.
Scharl trained as a decorative painter at the Munich Art School, where he also gained practical experience in painting restoration. He was wounded in the war, and after returning to Munich, he continued his studies at the Kunstakademie. In the 1920s Josef Scharl joined the artist groups New Munich Secession and Juryfreien, successfully participated in their exhibitions, and later became acquainted with the Impressionists.
Writing in the New Objectivity style, Josef Scharl was forced to emigrate to the United States in 1939, and 1944-46 marked the peak of his fame in the United States. He was also commissioned by the publisher Pantheon Books to illustrate the Grimm brothers' fairy tales and other books.
Max Peiffer Watenphul was a German artist. Described as a "lyric poet of painting", he belongs to a "tradition of German painters for whom the Italian landscape represented Arcadia." In addition to Mediterranean scenes, he regularly depicted Salzburg and painted many still lifes of flowers. As well as oil paintings, his extensive body of work encompasses watercolours, drawings, enamel, textiles, graphic art, and photographs.
