Provenance

Possibly acquired under the direction of the Emperor Napoléon from the hôtel d'Elbeuf by Jean-Jacques Régis de Cambacérès, Prince-Archichancelier de l'Empire and duc of Parma, in 1807 and recorded in the hôtel Molé in 1808.
Probably acquired with the hôtel Molé by the duchesse d'Orléans (1753-1821) in 1814 and certainly recorded in the 1821 inventory.
Thence by descent to her son, the duc d'Orléans, later King Louis-Philippe, who transferred them to the château d'Eu, where they are recorded in the inventory of 1841 in the cabinet du Roi.
Sold by the executors of King Louis-Philippe; Christie's, London, 17 June 1857, lot 363 (£245 to Nieuwenhuys).
Acquired for £350 from Davies of Pall Mall on 17 May 1888 as 'A pair of Gros Bleu Sevres vases mounted as Cassolettes for three lights each' and thence by descent.
The Property of a Family Trust; Christie’s, London, 2 December 1997, lot 40.
