BY MARTIN CARLIN, ALMOST CERTAINLY SUPPLIED BY DOMINIQUE DAGUERRE, CIRCA 1785
Each with a shaped marble top above two open white marble shelves flanked by fluted tapering uprights, supported on fluted toupie feet, the reverse with a vertical cut-out channel probably to accommodate the original 18th-century architectural setting, each of the shaped marble tops with that cutout now filled in, one stamped M CARLIN JME and the other stamped M CARLIN JME to back supports, one possibly with Rothschild label R260
37 ¾ in. (96 cm.) high, 36 in. (91.5 cm.) wide, 17 ½ in. (45 cm.) deep




Provenance

Supplied as a set of four consoles to Jean-Joseph de Laborde (1724–1794), for his hôtel on the rue d'Artois.
Seized in the Revolution and recorded 5 August 1796 at the Garde-Meuble National.
Restituted 10 October 1796 to Laborde’s widow Rosalie-Claire-Josèphe Nettine (1737-1821).
Anonymous sale (as a set of three); Paris, Palais d'Orsay, Ader, Picard, Tajan, 13 June 1979, lot 89.
Acquired from Galerie Segoura, Paris.
