A SILK AND METAL-THREAD 'POLONAISE' RUG

PROBABLY ISFAHAN, CENTRAL PERSIA, SECOND QUARTER 17TH CENTURY

The shaped metal-thread ground symmetrically arranged with paired inverted saz leaves and confronting paired palmettes, linked by a thin leafy vine, the linked ice-blue and pale green spandrels of similar design, enclosed within a metal-thread border with meandering scrolling leaf and palmette vine between narrow flowerhead guard stripes
