Description: Signed 'YH', artist's mark in Japanese characters. Three-dimensional, square brooch made of gently crumpled gold foil. An artistic work with a minimalist, clear design language and lively texture. Original box included.
Yasuki Hiramatsu is considered to be Japan's first contemporary arist jeweller.
He transformed traditional Japanese goldsmithing techniques into modern jewellery pieces. The gold was rolled out almost paper-thin, then folded, crumpled, or hammered to create highly textured surfaces. A key aspect of the visual effect of his works is how light interacts with them.
(See Victoria & Albert Museum, "Brooch, 1990 (made)")
A similar brooch by the artist is part of the V&A, London collection, inventory number M.1-1991.
