GALENO di Pergamo (129-201 d.C.) - Omnia quae extant opera. Venice: Giunta, 1565.

A fascinating copy with some contemporary annotations of this famous and monumental work. This is the fourth Giuntina edition, from of a total of 8 published between 1550 and 1625, following the first edition of 1541 which had an extraordinary success. It is here that all of Galen's writings were organized and printed for the first time and the best specialists in the field were involved; the publication included previously unpublished texts translated by the physician Giovan Battista Montano, who was the coordinator of the entire work
.

6 volumes, (350 x 236mm). Each tome with title within an elaborate woodcut frame with vignettes illustrating scenes from the life of Galen. - Vol. 1: title followed by the preliminary leaves; [bound with:] Prima classis. - Vol. 2: Secunda classic; [bound with:] Tertia classis; - Vol. 3: Quarta classis; - Vol. 4: Quinta classis; - Vol. 5: Sexta classis; [bound with:] Septima classis; - Vol. 6: Antonij Musae Brasauoli Medici Ferrariensis. Index refertissimus in omnes Galeni libros.

Numerous woodcut illustrations in the "Septima classis", printer's device at the end and engraved headpieces, with blank leaves (some slight and occasional waterstaining mostly at the beginning of the volumes and occasional browning, some sporadic wormtracks, more invasive at time as at the beginning of vol. 3 but mostly marginal, vol. 5 with first leaves reinforced at outer margin and in the "Septima classis" the gatherings 7A and 7B consisting of 6 leaves and not 8 as indicated in SBN but apparently complete). 18th-century half calf with spines decorated in gold and title on red and gilt labels, blue speckled edges (some wear, joint of final volume starting to open).

Isagogici libri (72 leaves), Extradine classium libri (79 leaves), ascripti libri qui variam artis medicae (117 leaves) that are sometimes present are missing in this copy. The preliminary leaves of vol. 1 contain the life of Galen and the Index librorum Isagogici libri. (6)
