Lot 48 | GLORIETA MOUNTAIN PALLASITE
Valeur estimée
£ 10 000 – 15 000
Glorieta Mountain is one of the most beautiful and most difficult-to-acquire pallasites.

A gorgeous complete meteorite with several apple-green crystals seen in a blue fusion crust.

First Found in 1884, Glorieta Mountain is a pallasite, the most resplendent of all meteorite groups, representing only about 0.2% of all meteorites. It is perhaps the most famous American pallasite. While pallasites are extremely rare, Glorieta Mountain is rarer still because it is chemically and morphologically anomalous. It also has a relatively high abundance of iron sulfide (the mineral troilite), leading researchers to classify Glorieta as an anomalous member of the main pallasite group. Most larger pieces of this meteorite have been cut, making this example very rare for its size.

Christie's would like to thank Dr. Alan E. Rubin at the Department of Earth, Planetary, and Space Sciences, University of California, Los Angeles for his assistance in preparing this catalogue.
