A concert handbill for ‘The Big Rhythm and Blues Show’ at the Municipal Auditorium, Kansas City, on 26 July 1953, featuring Joe Louis, Lester Young, Ruth Brown, Buddy Johnson and his orchestra and doo-woop group The Clovers, Kansas City, Missouri 1953, 229 x 152 mm. [With:] a scarce original programme for the 5th annual Randall’s Island Jazz Festival, New York, 19-21 August 1960, featuring an astonishing array of artists including the Basie band, Dizzy Gillespie Quintet, Horace Silver Quintet, Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers, the Ellington Orchestra, Thelonious Monk Quartet, the MJQ, the John Coltrane Quartet, the Miles Davis Quintet, Dinah Washington and the Dave Brubeck Quartet amongst others, 272 x 213 mm. [With:] two concert flyers for performances by Erskine Hawkins and Illinois Jacquet at the Paradise Theatre, Detroit, 1947 and 1949, each 228 x 148 mm. Upcoming headlines featured include Lester Young, Louis Armstrong, Lionel Hampton and Ella Fitzgerald Provenance: The Norman R. Saks Collection (Vail, pl.635). [With:] a handbill for a Harlem Cabaret Night fundraiser for the Scottsboro Boys defence fund featuring Ethel, Waters, Anita Case and an All Star Floor Show, at Small’s Paradise, New York, 6 March 1936, 213 x 132 mm. [With:] two promotional mailing cards for Johnny Hodges and the Ellington All Stars at George Wein’s Storyville, c.1951 [With:] a collection of eight handbills for European jazz concerts by American stars including Dizzy Gillespie, Lionel Hampton, Horace Silver and Jimmy Smiths at Antibes-Juan-les-Pins, Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, Oscar Peterson and Coleman Hawkins in Brussels; Erroll Garner in Sheffield; and Ella and Oscar on tour in Britain, 1955-67.
