Aert van der Neer, who lived in Amsterdam as a contemporary of Rembrandt, is distinguished in his work as a painter of important evening and night landscapes in moonlight on the one hand and winter landscapes on the other, which are among the best that were created in the 'Gouden eeuw' of Netherlandish art'.
