Lot 77 | PARTIAL SLICE OF RARE COAHUILA IRON METEORITE
Valeur estimée
£ 2 000 – 3 000
The triangular specimen polished and etched to both sides. Cut from specimen 32 sc.4 at the Center for Meteorite Studies at Arizona State University.
Up to 14 masses, some exceeding one ton, were first discovered in 1837. The meteorite is a hexahedrite, meaning that it is composed of a single large kamacite crystal (low-nickel iron) containing Neumann bands (formed by shock) and a few silicate-bearing nodules composed mostly of iron sulfide (troilite).
