PARKER, Charlie (1920-1955). Don’t Blame Me by the Charlie Parker Quintet. Jazz Selection, c.1949.

Original 10-inch 78 RPM record signed in blue ink on the label by Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Tommy Potter and Max Roach, being four of the five members of the quintet.

Parker scholar Lawrence O. Koch praises the track: ‘Bird is fantastic on Don’t Blame Me, a performance that is usually underrated… with breathtaking melodic breakup and an emotional quality that leaves the listener limp. This tune… is a must for the collection of every person even remotely interested in Parker’. More commonly found with Scrapple for the Apple on the A side, this French issue oddly features the same version of Don’t Blame Me on both sides. All four signees appeared at the Salle Pleyel in Paris in May 1949 for the Festival International de Jazz. Koch, 131.

10-inch shellac disc, in paper sleeve with Pierre Merlin design, c.1949 French re-issue by Jazz Selection under license from Dial Records, Inc.
