Results of a Scientific Mission to India and High Asia undertaken between the years MDCCCLIV and MDCCCLVIII by order of the Court of Directors of the Honourable East India Company. Leipzig: F.A. Brockhaus and London: Trübner and Co., 1861

FIRST EDITION, atlas volume only, elephant folio (908 x 639mm.), printed title and dedication, 7 panoramic profiles, 3 magnetic surveys, 4 geographical maps (on 3 sheets), 4 meteorological maps and tables and the complete set of 34 mounted oleographic panoramas and views on 27 sheets, numbered 1-29, including one view on 2 sheets, and 5 sheets with 2 views, modern half morocco, red morocco label to upper cover, one or two small closed tears at lower margins professionally repaired (not affecting plates or text), title slightly browned at extremities, extremities slightly rubbed

A rare copy of one of the finest nineteenth-century colour-printed books in large format with views in Tibet, Nepal, Kashmir, Sikkim, Assam and Punjab, including Mount Everest, Kanchinjinga, Leh and the Yarkand River."Bhutan was visited in January 1856 and Sikkim in 1858 from April to August. In February 1857 Hermann visited Kathmandu, and his two brothers travelled to Almora and Milam in the Garhwal; thence they entered into Tibet from Milam. After their return from Tibet, Adolph visited alone Tibet again. In 1855 Adolph and Hermann reached Ibi Gâmen (Kamet), at the height of 6780m. But unfortunately Robert was murdered by bandits at Kashgar on his way alone in 1857, after crossing the Karakoram and the Kuen-luen" (Yakushi).
