William Cole was an architect, responsible for two churches in Chester, its Infirmary and Lunatic Asylum as well as other works in the Wirral. The Preface states that his visit to Greece in 1833 was 'professional', and that his views are the better for the destruction of later buildings in the battle for control of Athens, just prior to his arrival.
