Freud speculates on old age with his sister Anna. He thanks his sister for her "birthday letter," and expresses his delight that her repeated visits had brought them closer together. He notes that their mother, who was approaching her 95th birthday, remained well and served as example to "us oldsters. Do you believe that we will be able to reach her age? As far as I can determine, you yourself are stepping out of the stage of your youthful girlhood years." (Anna was 70 at the time

She thanks her correspondent for his inquiries into her father's health, telling him that Dr. Freud is currently recuperating and hoping to return to work in a month.
