Ca. Ø48.5mm, approx. 101g, silver pair case with matching Hallmarks from 1763, movement and case with matching number 7873, early London verge movement, worm gear, signed James Markham London, signed beautiful silver champleve dial with date window, gilt hands, very beautiful and authentic condition, case with engraved aristocratic crown on the back, a short watch chain with iron key belongs to the watch, intact. James Markwick Senior was already making watches at the beginning of the 17th century. James Markwick Jr. was the son of James Markwick and was born around 1769 and was listed as a free member of the Clockmakers Company in 1692 due to his father's wealth. He was an outstanding watchmaker and became Master of the Guild in 1720. He was one of the first to use jewels. Markwick Jr. later went into partnership with his son-in-law Robert Markham, who continued the joint business under the name Markwick - Markham. Markwick Markham later became known for watches destined for the Turkish market.
