Making an anonymous contribution to support an ailing scientist "Dr. Grant". While he "grieves for Dr. Grant's difficulties," Faraday first denies Ayers's request to place his name directly with the cause, stating: "as a matter of principle I have always refused...". Faraday then encloses a check for 5 pounds, though adds: "I must beg you not to put my name to the contribution...if anything be necessary only [add] the letters M.F.".
