Anton Hermann Stilke

Hermann Anton Stilke, a German Romantic painter, studied at the Berlin Academy of Arts and later in Munich under Peter von Cornelius. He continued his studies at the Düsseldorf Academy of Fine Arts and collaborated with Karl Stürmer. Stilke adorned the arcades of the Munich Hofgarten with frescoes and worked on the Knights' Hall at Stolzenfels Castle. He embarked on an Italian journey and returned to Düsseldorf in 1833. Stilke eventually settled in Berlin. His wife, Hermine Peipers, was a talented draughtswoman and watercolorist. His works predominantly focused on religious and romantic themes, such as Joan of Arc and Saint George and the Dragon.
