Franz Xaver Freiherr (à partir de 1801) von Zach, baron (hongrois : Zách János Ferenc) était un astronome, géomètre, mathématicien, historien des sciences et officier austro-allemand d'origine hongroise. Il a rendu des services exceptionnels dans l'exploration du système solaire et l'organisation de l'astronomie internationale. Il a notamment donné son nom à un cratère lunaire (Zach) et à un astéroïde ((999) Zachia). Il a également été le fondateur des premières revues scientifiques et a organisé le premier congrès d'astronomie en 1798.
