A GERMAN WHITE-JAPANNED, POLYCHROME AND GILT-DECORATED SECRETAIRE CABINET

ATTRIBUTED TO THE WORKSHOP OF GERHARD DAGLY, CIRCA 1710-1720

The shaped cornice decorated with alternate panels of foliate scrolls and sprays of flowers, the conforming doors with later mirror plates opening to an interior fitted with a conforming hinged door enclosing a compartment within the cornice, above two sets of six graduated drawers, the fronts decorated as one with a central circular reserve, each painted with an Oriental landscape, to each side and above and below an arrangement of small valanced pigeonholes, the interior of the doors later decorated with rockwork and with various flowering trees and shrubs, the lower part fitted with a fall-front secretaire drawer opening to a lined writing surface before an arrangement of one long and two short drawers with projecting drawers at each side, below a row of pigeonholes, the fronts variously decorated, the front decorated with a triumphant procession, the two small drawers below variously decorated with flowering branches, the two long drawers below centered by rectangular panels decorated with scenes of figures at various pursuits in garden settings, supported on arched and curved bracket feet, with printed and inscribed Ann and Gordon Getty Collection inventory label.
