AMERICANA – Group of four American imprints. Various places, 1849-1892.

Including scarce works of Native Americana. The Hampton School was founded in Hampton, GA after the Civil War for the education of freedmen. A decade later, it started a program for Native American men who had been prisoners of war. Comprises:
1. EASTMAN, Mary. Dacotah: or, Life and Legends of the Sioux around Fort Snelling. New York: John Wiley, 1849. Lithographed frontispiece. Cloth (rubbed, toned).
2. DEARBORN, Henry A.S. A Sketch of the Life of the Apostle Eliot, prepatory to a subscription for Erecting a Monument. Roxbury: Norfolk County Journal Press, 1850. Frontispiece. Two facsimile pages of the Eliot Bible printed in red. Wrappers.
3. ARMSTRONG, Mary and LUDLOW, Helen. Hampton and its Students … with Fifty Cabin and Plantation Songs. New York: G.P. Putnam’s, 1874. Folding frontispiece. About fine condition.
4. HAMPTON INSTITUTE – Letter from the Secretary of the Interior in response to Senate Resolution of February 28, 1891, forwarding report made by the Hampton Institute regarding its Returned Indian Students. Washington: G.P.O., 1892. Illustrated from photographs and with large folding plates. Wrappers (chipped, detached).
