Lot 198 | Discharging a Michigan cavalryman
Valeur estimée
$ 5 000 – 8 000
One page, 245 x 200mm (original folds partially separated, one small hole at bottom of central panel, light toning at the edges).
On the appeal of two U.S. Representatives, Lincoln discharges a Union soldier: "Upon the personal application of Hon. W. R. Morrison & Hon. F. C. Beaman, and on the case within dated, what I believe to be true, let F. P. Beidler, within named be discharged". William Ralls Morrison, presumed referenced here, was a U.S. Representative from Illinois, who himself served in the Civil War until a bullet struck his hip in the Battle of Fort Donelson. Fernando C. Beaman, also referenced here, was a U.S. representative from Michigan. The likely discharged man is Frederick P. Beidler, who enlisted with the Ninth Michigan Cavalry as a Private in March 1863 and was discharged by Special Order in June 1864 (civilwardata.com). Published in Basler.
