GARDENS – Group of 22 books on European gardens and landscape architecture, from Mrs. Wrightsman’s personal library. Some signed by authors or artists, with some inscribed presentation copies. 19th-21st centuries.

22 volumes, various sizes. Many in publisher’s bindings, some with original dust jackets, and archival boxes. Includes texts in English and French.
Versailles brought its interior decoration in conversation with extensive and intentionally designed landscapes. Vegetal and floral motifs outgrew the garden to adorn the architectural decoration of the late Baroque and early Rococo from France and Italy to the British Isles. The cornerstone of Mrs. Wrightsman’s collection were these garden-influenced objects, which brought nature back into her Fifth Avenue apartment.
