Francis Crick sends “apologies for the Rhoads-Gamow business,” after having accused Leonard Hamilton of over-promoting his own role in the double helix discovery. In part, “I was not really disturbed, but thought a word might not be out of place, but I was quite wrong to imagine that Rhoads had discussed it with you. Please forgive me.” Crick makes amends by reminiscing about his last visit to the States (“I had quite forgotten about the State Liquor Store, and was very amused to get the photo”) and making plans for his next visit: “Probably Bethesda first, to work with Alex Rich (he has just gone back after 6 months here). Then to McCollum-Pratt, Gordon Conference, and then 3 weeks in Ann Arbor. It will be very nice to see you all again.” He shares that his family have been ill and they were separated for Christmas but they seem better now and that he “shall ease up myself a bit now Alex has done. I have masses of arrears of work.”
