Together 2 volumes, small 4to. Cancer inscribed on the front free endpaper: "To Raymond Queneau / With all good wishes / Henry V. Miller / Paris 11/25/34." Publisher's printed wrappers with French flaps by Maurice Kahane, publisher's warning printed in red and mounted to upper left corner of front cover; spine lightly browned and creased, rear cover lightly dust-soiled and toned, a few small chips and short tears to extremities, upper hinge split but holding firm. Inscribed on the front free endpaper: "To Raymond Queneau / With friendliest greetings. / Henry Miller / 5/5/39." Publisher's printed wrappers with French flaps; spine lightly creased, a touch of dustsoiling to rear cover, a bit of shelf wear to extremities. Each housed in a black cloth clamshell case.

First editions, presentation copies, each inscribed to the writer and editor Raymond Queneau in the year of publication.

Raymond Queneau was one of the first French writers that Henry Miller met in Paris, and the two became close during his time abroad: "Raymond fully appreciated Miller's originality, and Miller always took seriously what Raymond had to say ... Raymond was a loyal supporter of Henry's from the beginning, and wrote a glowing article about Tropic of Cancer and Black Spring in the December 1936 edition of La Nouvelle Revue Française" (Brassai).
