Original grey cloth, titles and decoration to spine and upper cover stamped in red, top edge stained red (somewhat stained, endpapers with residual ink drip from red stain); original dust-jacket (faintly worn, 3 small closed tears to top edge); housed in blue quarter morocco clamshell box. Provenance: William Randolph Hearst (1863-1951, legendary newspaper magnate and subject of the celebrated film Citizen Kane, authorial presentation inscription to front free endpaper).

Original blue cloth, spine lettered, and upper cover decorated in gilt (soiled and rubbed, spine sunned); original dust-jacket possibly supplied from another copy (lightly rubbed, creases, closed tears and chips along edges most repaired with tape on verso, chip to top edge of lower panel and spine with some textual loss, front flap almost detached). Provenance: ‘Swifty’ (authorial presentation inscription to front free endpaper, dated 1934) — ownership inscription to rear pastedown — unidentified bookplate to front pastedown.
