ATTRIBUTED TO GILES GRENDEY, CIRCA 1740

The serpentine top with a waterleaf carved edge and with a central cartouche depicting a procession approaching a courtly lady beside a pagoda within a watery landscape, surrounded by a dense diapered border with alternating floral sprays and chinoiserie vignette cartouches, the conforming serpentine case fitted with a velvet lined brushing slide above three graduated walnut-lined drawers depicting a stag hunt and processions in exotic landscapes, the sides decorated with large scale animals beside trees on a gadrooned base with a central pierced foliate cartouche on hairy paw feet, the back with white chalk inscription IMP.9160 and 626…4, with printed and inscribed Ann and Gordon Getty Collection inventory label, en suite with the bureau cabinet

32 1/4 in. (81.9 cm.) high, 42 3/4 in. (106.6 cm.) wide, 25 in. (63.5 cm.) deep

Possibly commissioned by a member of the Pallavicini family and by descent.
