ATTRIBUTED TO GILES GRENDEY, CIRCA 1740

The scrolled broken-arch cornice issuing foliate scrolls and flanking a pierced foliate cartouche above a dentil-cornice and a pair of cabinet doors each with later mirror plates within diapered and gilt-japanned borders depicting landscape and figural vignettes, the reverse of the doors decorated with large scale cartouches with floral sprays, figures and birds within gilt animal cartouche sprays, the later blue-stained interior fitted with shelves, compartments and folio slides over three drawers, the lower case with a slant front decorated with two cartouches depicting figures in front of pavilions within a dense diapered and figural cartouche ground, and opening to a fitted interior with a central mirrored prospect door flanked by pigeon holes and small drawers, and a later silk velvet lined writing surface, the whole densely decorated with figures, birds, and animals, the bombé case with three graduated oak lined drawers decorated with figural vignettes, processions and animals in exotic landscapes, the super cartouches on the sides with animals, the lower panels with figural vignettes above a gadrooned apron and foliate scrolled paw feet, with printed and inscribed Ann and Gordon Getty Collection inventory label, en suite with the chest of drawers
