Lot 177 | An anti-Jackson broadside
JACKSON, Andrew (1767-1845) – An account of some of the Bloody Deeds of General Jackson, n.p., n.d., [1828].

Broadside, 670 x 520mm, three woodcut vignettes and a woodcut coffin, text within mourning borders, deckled edges (pinholes at creases, some margins losses including one at lower right corner affecting several lines of text).

A large and scarce anti-Jackson broadside. One of several polemics issued during the election of 1828 that pitted Jackson against John Quincy Adams. The first vignette references the execution of militia men during the Creek War, depicting six blindfolded men kneeling before a firing squad and a row of open coffins while a sword-wielding officer commands them to fire and placed beside the heading: "A brief Account of the Execution of the Six Militia Men." The second vignette depicts a single man just before his execution, below a quote "O God! My poor mother" along with a caricature of Jackson standing behind the riflemen directing them to "Blow ten balls through the d____d rascal." The third vignette, depicts the duel between Jackson and Charles Dickinson, with Jackson crying "I'll have your heart's blood" as he shoots an unarmed man with a pistol.
