THE STANDS WITH MARK OF NICHOLAS SPRIMONT, LONDON, 1746, THE SAUCEBOATS AND LADLES UNMARKED, ATTRIBUTED TO NICHOLAS SPRIMONT, CIRCA 1745

The sauceboats and stands cast and chased with bands of rocaille and crustacea alternating with plain flutes, the sauceboats on shaped oval foot, with applied serpent scroll handles, the ladles with shaped handles with shell terminals, the sauceboats each engraved inside the lip with a coat-of-arms within the motto of the Order of the Bath and within drapery mantling and with earl's coronet above, the stands each engraved with a crest within ribbon-tied foliage fronds and with earl's coronet above, marked underneath the stands

The arms on the sauceboats are those of Watson quartering Wentworth impaling Finch for Thomas Watson-Wentworth, as 1st Earl of Malton, K.B. (1693-1750) and his wife Lady Mary Finch (1701-1761), daughter of Daniel Finch, 2nd Earl of Nottingham (1647-1729), whom he married in 1716. The stands are engraved with the crest of Watson also for Thomas Watson-Wentworth, as 1st Marquess of Rockingham, following his elevation in 1746.
