A Study Group
A study group of leaves and fragments, in Latin, manuscripts on vellum [12th to 15th centuries]
A group of manuscripts from across Western Europe, ranging from a Calendar with computistic reckonings to a selection of important classical works.

Comprising:
(i) Two fragments from a Sacramentary or Missal [Germany, 12th century].
Fragment from a leaf measuring c.36 × 84mm, and a fragment from a bifolium measuring c.30 × 298mm. Preserving 3-5 lines, blind-ruled, written in a late Caroline minuscule with letters sloping to the right, texts and rubrics in brown and orange ink (creases and tear in vellum of both fragments from use in a binding).
Provenance: (1) Said by Colker to be from Tegernsee; (2) Colker MS 462; acquired in 1994 from Quaritch.

(ii) A partial leaf from Zacharias Chrysopolitanus (d. c. 1155), Unum ex quattuor, sive de concordia evangelistarum [?France, 12th century].
c.283 × 208mm. Preserving 2 columns of 41 lines, in a protogothic bookhand; with text comprising part of Zachary of Chrysopolis's gospel harmony, chapters 175-76; see Patrologia Latina, 186, 112-620 (under the title De Concordia Evangelistarum) (lacking text a lower edge from cropping, creases in vellum from use in binding, tape on outer edge).
Provenance: (1) Served as cover for a work by Busbequius (probably Ghislain de Bousbecq [1522-1592]); (2) Same as MS 332; (3) Colker MS 363; acquired in 1986 from Quaritch.

(iii) A leaf from Priscian, Institutiones Grammaticae [France, 13th century].
c.185 × 130mm. 30 lines, with extensive annotation in the margins, in a small gothic hand in brown ink; with text comprising part of book 17 of Priscianus of Caesarea's Institutiones Grammaticae, on syntax (holes caused by ruling, attached to a 19th-century marbled paper flyleaf, with recto obscured).
Provenance: (1) Attached to a 19th-century marbled paper leaf; (2) separately, a letter (1982) of Professor Ian Moxon, Department of Latin, University of Leeds: writing to a Reverend Birch, Maxon identifies the text; (3) Colker MS 520; probably acquired c.2005.

(iii) A leaf from a Commentary on Aristotle's Topica [England, 15th century].
c.287 × 185mm. 2 columns of 52 lines, ruled in plummet, in a secretary hand (small holes in vellum throughout and small piece of top corner missing, part of text obscured by remains of adhesive).
Provenance: (1) Same as MS 332; (2) Colker MS 412; acquired in 1989 from Quaritch.

(iv) A leaf from Cicero, Oratio Pro Caelio [Italy, 15th century].
c.250 × 129mm. 28 lines, ruled in plummet, written in a humanistic script in light brown ink; with text comprising part of chapters 14-15.
Provenance: (1) Walter Ashburner (1864-1936) at Florence; (2) Colker MS 194; acquired in 1971 from Charles Ede, London.

(v) A leaf with Calendar Tables, also Remarks including about activities according to the months and the zodiac [Germany, 15th century].
c.175 × 125mm. 31 lines, rules in plummet with pricking visible on outer and lower margins; with notes and tables on finding the Dominical Letter (remains of adhesive, part of side margin folded over).
Provenance: (1) Same as MS 502; (2) Colker MS 504; acquired in 2002 from Quaritch.
