Anthologia Graeca Planudea [in grego] - Edita da: Janus Lascaris (1445-1535). Florence: Lorenzo di Francesco de Alopa, 11 Agosto 1494. Editio princeps of the Planudean anthology. With the editor's dedicatory letter to Piero de' Medici, often missing, presumably suppressed because of Piero’s proscription and flight from Florence. The text of this poetic collection is that revised by Planudes in 1299; Lascaris’ edition established the text for centuries until the earlier Palatine Anthology was rediscovered. The Greek Anthology is printed entirely in Lorenzo's fount of two sets of Greek capitals letters, designed by Lascaris. He explains in his dedicatory letter how difficult it was for punch-cutters and typefounders to reproduce Greek script and that he had therefore gone back to using capital letter forms found in antique inscriptions. 4to (224 x 162mm). 280 cc. with final blank in signature [*] with the dedicatory letter by Juan Lascaris to Pietro de Medici often missing; an early numbering in ink omits the 8 leaves of dedication, here bound at beginning (very occasional extremely light spotting and browning). Blindstamped pigskin signed and dated by Laengner Bibliopola et Bibliopegus Mediol. 1839 (Theodor Laengner, Saxone of Lipsia - his library bought by Ulrico Hoepli in 1870); Title and ownership inscription of Girolamo D’Adda tooled in black on the front cover, the imprint on the back cover: HYE: ABDUENSIS (Girolamo d'Adda) and, at foot, ET AMICORUM; at center of rare panel the bibliographical references in blank ink; 15th-century manuscript title still visible at loweredge. Provenance: interesting manuscripts corrections and contemporary additions: marginalia, orthographic corrections, additions of some missing words (the early manuscript pagination at top margin sometimes cropped) - GIROLAMO D'ADDA (Milan, 1815-1881) - CHARLES FAIRFAX MURRAY (London, 1849-1919; bookplate. The d'Adda library was sold in 1899 with a corresponding catalogue by Giuseppe Cavalieri published in 50 copies in 1902) - WALTER ASHBURNER (1864-1936; stamps) - SERGIO COLOMBI (1887-1972; bookplate, Swiss banker) - GIUSEPPE MARTINI (1870-1944; bookseller, a description pasted on the first flyleaf). GW 2048; BMC VI 666; ISTC 00765000; E. Legrand, Bibliographie Hellénique, Parigi: 1885, I, p. 29. The lot is accompanied by a export license.
