The manuscript is illustrated on Thomas's website, https://augustareadthomas.com/composition/aureole.html, together with a recording and programme note by Michael Lewanski illuminating the ways in which Aureole is inspired by and alludes to Beethoven. The work was commissioned by DePaul University School of Music and first performed by the university orchestra at Symphony Center, Chicago, on 29 May 2013, with Cliff Colnot conducting.
