In her memoirs, Paul Scheurich's wife describes her husband's close collaboration with the Meissen manufactory on the designs and staffage of his figurines. He was allowed to let his creativity unfold: "...Especially in Meissen I found artistic freedom in my work, I also had freedom in the choice of motifs and the artistic form of expression". (Quoted in Rafael, John, p. 19)
The freedom mentioned by Scheurich, is especially evident in the rather rare ensemble "the Abduction" (formerly titled "Turk and Turkess on Horseback"). It is one of Scheurich's most cheerful designs and convinces by its light-heartedness. As if escaped from a magical world, the free and imaginative design of the lovers on horseback, takes the viewer into the world of the Arabian nights. To ensure the lightness and expressiveness of his design, he gave the workers in the manufactory precise instructions for the shape and staffage of the group: "Eyes of him and her bright," he writes on the design sheet. "Spots on the horse underlaid with a light tone and towards the center larger and darker, dappled." Next to it, he drew the group from all four sides with the greatest accuracy. (Fig. 35.1)

The sketches and design drafts of the group, as well as the detailed specifications for the staffage, have been preserved in the manufactory's archives and still bear witness to the detailed implementation of Scheurich's ideas by the Meissen manufactory.

At the 1937 World's Fair, the figure and its staffage were awarded the Grand Prix.
