Gilles van Delft?
A bifolium of a Commentary on Ovid’s Remedia Amoris, in Latin, manuscript on paper [Germany, late 15th century].
An apparently unidentified Renaissance commentary - closest to that of Gilles van Delft’s - of Ovid’s amatory-didactic companion poem to his Ars Amatoria.

A bifolium, each leaf 190 x 147mm., c.34 lines written in a very cursive German hand, the text not consecutive, beginning ‘[R]ura quoque oblectant’, containing a commentary on Ovid’s Remedia Amoris, 169-187 (‘Rura quoque oblectant’ to ‘Poma dat autumnus’) on the first leaf and 301-317 on the second (‘Illud et illud habet’ to ‘Quam mala dicebam’) (some staining and wormholing, edges frayed).

Provenance:
Colker MS 101; acquired in 1966 from Maggs.

The present text is an apparently unidentified Renaissance commentary on Ovid’s Remedia Amoris, the great Latin poet’s companion poem to his Ars amatoria, in which he offers advice on how to escape safely from an unhappy love affair. It is not the standard commentary of Bartolomeo Merula (first published in Venice in 1494), and is closest (though more condensed and with variations) to the Flemish theologian Gilles van Delft’s commentary that first appeared in print in Paris in 1493, published by Félix Baligault.
