Dreiteiliger Bronzekandelaber: Basis mit massiver, schwerer Scheibe über gleichfalls massivem Ständer mit drei Füßen, die jeweils durch ein Gelenk in der Mitte einklappbar sind. Gewicht 7,28 kg. Maximale Breite im ausgeklappten Zustand ca. 32 cm (von Fuß zu Fuß), Durchmesser der Scheibe 20 cm. Die Füße am unteren Ende durch Abtreppungen profiliert. Die auf der Drehbank nachgearbeitete Scheibe in der Mitte und am Rand profiliert, in der Bahn dazwischen aufwendig mit Silbereinlagen verziert: eine Wellenranke mit Blättern innerhalb der Wellenberge und Blüten in den Wellentälern. In der Mitte modern ein Zapfen zur Befestigung der Säule eingelassen.
Die Säule unten mit einer Bohrung zum Aufstecken auf die Basis versehen. Die sich konisch nach oben verjüngende Säule mit kräftigen Kanneluren versehen. Durchmesser unten 6 cm (inklusive der Blätter des Kymations am unteren Rand), oben 2,2 cm. Der untere Rand mit einem vollplastisch ausgearbeiteten Kymation versehen, eine komplexe Komposition mit drei sich überlappenden Blattreihen. Gewicht der Säule 6,20 kg. Länge 112 cm.
Auf die Säule aufgesteckt ein kelchförmiger Aufsatz, der mit einer abgedrehten Scheibe mit Zentrierloch und konzentrischen Drehrillen abgedeckt ist. Das Lot der Weichlötung auf dem oberen Rand des "Kelches" und dem unteren Rand der Scheibe erhalten, die beiden Teile heute aber lose (wie meist bei antiken Weichlötungen). Höhe des Kelches mit darauf gelegter Scheibe 9,5 cm. Gewicht des Kelches ohne Scheibe 0,93 kg, Gewicht der Scheibe 0,28 kg. Der Kelch wieder unten und oben profiliert, in der Bahn dazwischen gleichfalls eine mit Silber eingelegte Wellenranke, deren Motiv identisch mit demjenigen der Scheibe der Basis ist. Dunkelgrüne Patina mit minimalen Bestoßungen. Die Silbereinlagen exzellent erhalten und gut sichtbar. Höhe des zusammengestecken Kandelabers 134,3 cm. Abgesehen vom modern eingefügten Zapfen zum Aufstecken der Säule ein unverändert und vollständig erhaltener Kandelaber von hoher Qualität und ohne Deformierungen. Ein außergewöhnlich eindrucksvolles und dekoratives Meisterstück römischen Bronzehandwerks.

Three-piece bronze candelabrum: the base with a solid, heavy disc on an equally solid stand with three feet, which can be folded inwards thanks to a center joint. Weight 7.28 kg. Maximum width when unfolded approx. 32 cm (from foot to foot), diameter of the disc 20 cm. The feet are contoured at the bottom with steps. The disc, which has been reworked on a lathe, is contoured in the middle and at the edge, and elaborately decorated with silver inlays in the band between: tendrils interwoven with leaves and flowers. A central peg to mount the column a recent addition. The column has a hole at the bottom for attaching it to the base. The column tapers conically towards the top and is decorated with pronounced fluting. Diameter at the bottom 6 cm (including the leaves of the cymation at the lower edge), at the top 2.2 cm. The lower edge is decorated with a fully sculpted cymation, a complex composition with three overlapping rows of leaves. Weight of the column 6.20 kg. Length 112 cm.
A chalice-shaped attachment is placed on top of the column, covered with a turned disc with a central hole and concentric grooves. The solder joint on the upper edge of the "chalice" and the lower edge of the disc is preserved, but the two parts are now loose (as is usually the case with ancient solder joints). Height of the cup with the disc placed on top 9.5 cm. Weight of the cup without the disc 0.93 kg, weight of the disc 0.28 kg. The cup is contoured at the bottom and top, with a silver-inlaid wave tendril in between, the motif of which is identical to that of the disc on the base. Dark green patina with minimal knocks. The silver inlays are excellently preserved and clearly visible. Height of the assembled candelabra 134.3 cm. The modern attachment peg apart, this is an unmodified and completely preserved candelabrum of high quality and without deformations. An exceptionally impressive and decorative masterpiece of Roman bronze craftsmanship.
Provenance: South German private collection, acquired from the collection of the consignor's grandfather, art collector J. P., who died 30 years ago.
