Einstein forwards a letter to Austrian conductor and composer Fritz Stiedry, whose niece requested Einstein's assistance after her assets were seized. To Stiedry, he writes that he "received the attached letter [not present] urging me to help your niece, Miss Rumpler of Stockholm. I am forwarding the letter to you since both my friends and myself have exhausted all available resources for financial help...I very much hope that you will be able to either provide help or find support from others..." Stiedry held chief conductorships in numerous German operas, yet left Germany when Adolf Hitler rose to power in 1933, then serving in Leningrad before migrating to the United States in 1937. According to the Holocaust Survivors and Victims Database, Lola Rumpler, born Lola Stiedry on 18 June 1885, although safe in neutral Sweden, had lost her German citizenship and had her property seized by the Nazi regime.
