Лот 171 | Purchasing corn from the Delawares
HARRISON, William Henry (1773-1841). Autograph document signed ("Willm Henry Harrison") as Major General, Cincinnati, 31 January 1814.

One page, 248 x 197mm. (partial fold separations).

Harrison orders the purchase of corn from "a number of Delaware Indians who now reside at Upper Sandusky, and lately at Greentown Ohio, to 185 1/2 bushells [sic] of Corn taken for the use of a Brigade of Pennsylvania milita commanded by Brigadier Gen Crooks in the service of the U.S…." Harrison then instructs the quartermaster stationed at Upper Sandusky to "pay to B F Stickney Indian Agent the above sum of $138.39 1/2 for said Indians." The previous year, Harrison had secured his military reputation after commanding U.S. troops at the Battle of the Thames where he defeated Tecumseh—enhancing his national profile which enabled him to secure the White House in 1841.

[With:] ARMOR, John w. Autograph document signed, Mansfield, 23 November 1812. One page 123 x 198mm, affixed at upper left corner to the verso of the previous document. A receipt for 155 1/2 bushels of "publick corn made use of by the teams and troopers belong to the 2nd D.P.M. at Greentown."
