Von allergrößter Seltenheit! Deutsches Reich 1933-1945 - Offizielle Medaille für die Hinterbliebenen Of the greatest rarity! Third Reich 1933-1945 - Official medal for the survivors of the injured crew members of the airship LZ 129 Hindenburg in memory of its explosion and crash on May 6, 1937 in Lakehurst in New Jersey near New York. Copy of the chief helmsman Ernst Huchel (1906-1937), design by Max Esser (1885-1945), made by the art and bell foundry Lauchhammer in Lauchhammer / Brandenburg. Patinated bronze cast, visible diameter approx. 124 mm, artist's mark "ME" and maker's mark "Hammer im Kreis" on the lower lapel, mounted in a closed wooden frame on a base, wood with inlays, base approx. 208 mm x 130 mm. Offered with a framed newspaper clipping from the Schwäbische Zeitung, Friedrichshafen edition of February 2, 2001, with a report about Ernst Huchel's son of the same name and himself, with a photo on which exactly this copy can be seen. Very good condition! This is a very important historical artefact that is directly related to the first major accident in the history of civil aviation, in which the largest aircraft built and completed to date, the legendary airship LZ 129 Hindenburg, had a spectacular crash 35 people tore to their deaths. At an unknown point in time, Luftschiffbau Zeppelin GmbH donated a commemorative medal for the bereaved of the 22 crew members who died there. It can be assumed that only 22 of these medals were issued and only a few have come to our time. Since these medals appear in different wooden frames, it can be assumed that they were set individually according to the rank of the deceased. At an unknown point in time, they were handed over to the bereaved. Further information on request.
