Sixth hardback edition, 38th in the series. Ranji again scores over 3,000 runs, Albert Trott likewise repeats the previous season’s tally of 1,000 runs and 200 wickets. Jessop excels as an all rounder, scoring 2,000 runs and taking 100 wickets. Yet in his feature article on ‘Fielding in 1900’, D.L.A. Jephson complains of a decline, comparing fielders to ‘waxen figures in a third rate tailor’s shop. The energy, the life, the ever-watchfulness of ten years ago is gone, and in their place are lethargy, laziness, and a wonderful yearning for rest’.
Octavo (162 x 100mm). Mounted photographic plate (some faint spotting to photograph, otherwise a clean copy) Publisher's original hardback cloth, spine and front cover lettered in gilt, original printed yellow wrappers used as endpapers (faint rubbing to spine ends, lower corners a little bumped, faint patch of bubbling of cloth on front cover, bookplate covering advertisement on front pastedown). Provenance: Sir Murdoch McLeod, Bt (armorial bookplate)
